Our Story…
Meet the Director…
Hi! My name is Denise Aime Martinez. I am the owner and director of this diverse business. I’ve been singing since, well, probably since I was in my mother’s womb. I have loved performing since I can remember! I used to stand in front of the TV while everyone was watching, would turn it off, and would say, “I will be singing for you all now,” as I demanded everyone’s attention!
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Communications. I’ve been casted in various musicals such as “Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?” ~ “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” ~ “Into the Woods” ~ “Bye Bye Birdie!” After completing my bachelor’s, I was a choir director in the public schools for 10 years. My heart is for inspiring and raising well rounded musicians, promoting and supporting local performers, planning and providing music for special events, getting involved in the community, and helping the fellow entrepreneur by sharing my knowledge and insights. The studio offers lessons in various instruments such as Voice, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Saxophone, Violin, and possibly others upon request. A large part of what I do is performing in special events and venues. I look forward to working with you and your family! Together, we can foster a love for the arts in our Community.
How it all began…
In 2009, I became a “stay at home mom”…or so I thought! Instead, I became sought out for private voice and piano lessons. I began accepting students and taught them from home. Eventually, I felt the need to take my business out of my home and give the studio an actual business name. I called it Banmar Music Academy. The music school grew to approximately 50-60 students! There were instructors for several instruments. After about 4 years, with life’s unfortunate twists and turns, it all came to a screeching halt. I kept only a few students for a few more years. Then, in 2017, I deactivated the business name and closed the studio down for what I thought was going to be forever. Fortunately…it wasn’t!
I had kept a couple of students for private piano lessons at home. In 2020, I received a phone call saying that someone had told someone who told them, that I teach music lessons. See, I’ve always sought out to do with my life as God’s will dictates. I’ve always said, “If it’s Your will Father, let it be done.” God had always kept the studio alive, even if it was with a few students, so I decided to reopen the studio in the Spring of 2020. Unfortunately, that same Spring, the COVID 19 Pandemic hit the United States pretty hard, and all businesses were closed for a while. I taught online lessons for a few students, then when businesses reopened I continued the re-reopening of the studio! In 2021 I fell ill with the virus. Between the infection stage and the recover stage, it was a period of about 3-4 months that I was M.I.A. from the studio. I came back in full swing during the fall of 2021.
I am beyond grateful for where we are now, and look forward to what God has in store for the future with Encore Performing Arts!
